Pharmacy First (Minor Ailments)
Topsham Pharmacy is delighted to have recently qualified as an ‘Accredited Provider’ of a new NHS scheme which aims to relieve pressure on doctors. The intention of the scheme is to encourage the public to think ‘Pharmacy First’ and free up doctors’ time for more urgent and complex concerns and reduce waiting times. ‘The Community Pharmacy Minor Ailment Scheme’ will ensure that all patients can conveniently access advice and some ‘Prescription Only’ Medicines from a local accredited pharmacy without first visiting a doctor. There is a list of various specific conditions and treatments that are covered by the scheme, including eye drops for conjunctivitis, creams for nappy rash, athletes’ foot or impetigo and specified antibiotics for uncomplicated urinary infections. There will be no charge for these treatments for exempt groups and those who normally pay for their prescriptions will only have to pay the same charge as if they’d received the prescription from their GP. For more information see Think Pharmacy First News or contact us at any of our three pharmacies, 18 or 3 Fore Street, Topsham or our pharmacy at Glasshouse Medical Centre, Countess Wear.
Community Pharmacy Emergency Supply Service
We are able to offer a service whereby local patients and visitors to the area can access an emergency supply of their regular prescription medicines where they are unable to obtain a prescription before they need to take their next dose. The service may be needed because the patient has run out of a medicine, or because they have lost or damaged their medicines, or because they have left home without them. The aim of this service is to relieve pressure on urgent and emergency care services and general practitioner appointments at times of high demand. Please call us for details if you need an urgent supply of your regular medicines.
